Zirconium is a relatively new metal in this type of jewelry and has characteristics similar to Titanium:both are highly resistant to heat and corrosion and very durable.
Unlike Titanium, however, Zirconium rings are scratch resistant. This is due to the fact that when heat is applied to it, it forms a black oxidized coating around its surface making it scratch resistant and equal in strength to sapphires.
